BROOME COUNTY FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION COUNCIL

The mission of the Council is to provide leadership to the community in its effort to reduce the incidence and severity of all forms of family violence. A largely professional volunteer organization with ten working subcommittees, it has devoted numerous hours to a wide variety of activities that focus coordination, advocacy, and education on the prevention and treatment of abuse and neglect and the corollary systems issues.

Dutchess County Elder Abuse Resource List

The Coalition on Elder Abuse in Dutchess County is a group of individuals and private and public agencies working together to protect elders from abuse, neglect and exploitation and to preserve the quality of their lives. The Coalition’s values are safety, education, collaboration, empowerment, prevention and advocacy.

ERIE COUNTY COUNCIL ON ELDER ABUSE

The mission of the Erie County Council on Elder Abuse (CEA) is to promote a safe community for our seniors. The CEA includes law enforcement, the Erie County District Attorney's Office, Erie County agencies, and many senior service providers. In addition to networking and educational opportunities, members work to identify gaps in service and insure the best use of resources.

Continued efforts to report and bring perpetrators of crimes to justice is a goal of the CEA. The CEA remains committed to eliminating elder abuse through outreach and education and treat elder abuse for what it is - a crime against a population deserving of our protection and respect.

The Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s mission is to assist and empower victims of domestic violence and sexual assault while challenging and changing social systems that tolerate and perpetuate abuse.

The New York City Elder Abuse Network's mission is to strengthen partnerships to promote advocacy, education and services to prevent and address elder mistreatment. 

Objectives are to provide leadership as a citywide voice for victims of elder abuse, develop a strong network of shared resources and support that encourages discussion, problem-solving, and information-sharing to enhance service delivery and coordination, advocate for increased development of services for victims of elder abuse, and review new legislation and advocate for legislative changes that affect victims of elder abuse.  

Membership is open to any organization, agency and/or entity whose members are committed to NYCEAN’s mission and are interested or engaged in legislation, funding, research, policy, development, administration, program planning, service delivery, education, training, and advocacy concerning the abuse or neglect of older people. 

NEW YORK STATE COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a not-for-profit membership organization whose mission is to eradicate domestic violence and to ensure the provision of effective and appropriate services to victims of domestic violence through community outreach, education, training, technical assistance and policy development. The Coalition’s principles and practices prioritize the safety and concerns of women who are abused, provide support and encouragement for the participation of women who are abused in the struggle to eradicate personal and institutional violence against them, and provide for a non-competitive atmosphere that fosters open communication, respect, and cooperation among advocates and women who are abused.

As the only statewide domestic violence coalition in New York, members include residential and non-residential programs in the state that are licensed by the NYS Office for Children and Family Services (OCFS), as well as a host of other programs in NYS that serve women who are abused, and concerned individuals who share the Coalition’s goal of ending domestic violence.

NEW YORK STATE CAREGIVING & RESPITE COALITION

 

NEW YORK STATE COALITION AGAINST SEXUAL ASSAULT

NYSCASA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending sexual violence. Formed in 1987 by rape crisis advocates as a mutual support group, the mission and purpose of the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault rapidly evolved from basic networking. The Coalition grew to include technical assistance, resource development and policy advocacy for the more than 100 Rape Crisis programs, sister agencies and collaborators statewide that work with survivors of sexual violence and their families.

Today, they work with local, regional state and national organizations all of whom are dedicated to ending sexual violence.

ONEIDA COUNTY ELDER ABUSE COALITION

The Oneida County Elder Abuse Coalition is a continually growing collection of area agencies and organizations that was formed to promote the awareness, recognition, intervention and prevention of elder abuse in our community.  Together we provide a prompt, coordinated response to the service needs of victims and other vulnerable elderly persons.

SYRACUSE AREA DOMESTIC & SEXUAL VIOLENCE COALITION

The Syracuse Area Domestic & Sexual Violence Coalition was formed to bring together concerned community members and representatives from community organizations and professional groups to improve local services and create system level change on issues of domestic and sexual violence and elder abuse.  There are a variety of committees, including the Elder Abuse Committee.

Livingston County events to help raise awareness included WEAAD posters; fundraising for Meals on Wheels; information table; purple carnations for Adult Services workers; distributing purple Stop Elder Abuse/Call APS bracelets.

 

Monroe County APS held an Elder Abuse Awareness Fair with a very creative display to illustrate the types of cases that APS encounters on a regular basis - very effective way to help both the public and other DSS staff understand who APS serves and the complexity of the cases.

St. Regis Mohawk Protective Services Elder Abuse Awarness Day activities included an ad on the Tribal website and morning event in the Community Building lobby with information to help raise awareness; additional radio promotion of the event.
